Celebrity Golf Classic -- Once Again a Hole in One


What could be better than a round of golf with former Broncos' All-Pro Linebacker and his celerity guests at Arrowhead Golf Club - coupling that round of golf with a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of Denver-area children.

The REACH Foundation held its Second Annual Celebrity Golf Classic on August 20th at Arrowhead Golf Club. At this year's Celebrity Golf Classic we introduced a new and exciting change to our celebrity format - "Pros versus Joes". The "Pros versus Joes" format allowed each foursome to play one hole with each of Karl's celebrity guests. On these four "Pros versus Joes" Holes, golfers competed directly against the Pros to win an item signed by all the Pros. This year's team of Pros included Karl, Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Barry, NFL Hall of Famer Jan Stenerud and Broncos' Ring of Honor member Billy Thompson

In addition to the excitement of golfing with our celebrity guests, each golfer was provided a REACH Foundation Nike Golf Polo Shirt, as well as a beautiful way to display their experience in the form of a commemorative frame featuring an autographed photo Karl and a 4 x 6 of their team. On top of enjoying a great day of golf, each golfer had their fill with on-course food provided by Mici, Chick-fil-A and drinks from Coca-Cola and Vitamin Water.

Every successful event includes prizes and at the conclusion of the Classic, prizes were awarded to our winners. Team Karlress King posted the event's lowest score with a 57 and won top honors. For their efforts each player received an autographed Karl Mecklenburg Football and a $100 gift certificate to Texas de Brazil. A scorecard tie break was held for second and third place as two teams posted 63's. With a one stroke better score on Hole #9, Team Big O Tires took home second prize and Team Safeway took home third prize. Our friends at Mici posted the day's highest score with an 89 and took home the award for the "Most Honest" team. A Nike Golf Visor and Nike Golf Divot Tool were awarded to the winners of the Most Accurate Drive, Longest Putt, Longest Drive and Closest to the Hole competitions. The "Pros versus Joes" competition was fierce, with just one golfer able to beat all four Pros and only because Rick Barry drove his drive out of bounds. For his feat, Mike Spencer received an Arrowhead Golf Flag autographed by all four Pros.
